PEPTIDES

PEPTIDES

Peptides are short chains of amino acids, which are the building blocks of certain essential skin proteins – collagen, and elastin in particular. Proteins occur naturally and give the skin its firmness, shape, texture and strength.

As we age, external environmental aggressors weaken the proteins within the skin, leading to a loss in firmness and elasticity. Wrinkles and other unwanted effects emerge. Extensive scientific research has shown that peptides act as little messengers: they alert the skin cells to produce specific components, such as collagen or elastin, which can help revive ageing skin.

YSL Beauty develops products incorporating two kinds of peptides with clinically proven efficiency:

First, acetyl tetrapeptide-9 targets the synthesis of lumican – a protein that links collagen fibrils together. By strengthening the collagen network, collagen production is boosted, and the skin appears firmer and bouncier.

Second, acetyl trifluoromethylphenyl valylglycine stimulates elastin and collagen synthesis. This peptide promotes the skin’s elasticity and reduces wrinkles.

Peptides used in skincare help reinforce the proteins naturally occurring in the skin. Different peptides have different effects, but those developed by YSL Beauty stimulate collagen and elastin production in particular. This leads to firmer skin with greater elasticity and reduced wrinkles. The skin’s structure is remodelled in-depth, and the face contours are reshaped.
