PEARLS
The pearls used in YSL Beauty make-up products are a composite material with a layered structure. It combines a substrate – often synthetic mica,– with a colouring agent that can be either mineral or organic.
Light reflection properties drive nacre’s distinctive sheen. YSL Beauty’s colour experts masterfully play on the proportions and properties of nacre to add the desired level of shimmer or glow to its make-up products.
Nacre is a cross-category ingredient with benefits for the face, eyes and lips. Applied to foundation in very fine particles for a subtle finish, it produces brightness and glow – a luminous veil to highlight the complexion all day long. Added to eye shadow in larger particles for greater intensity, it dresses the eyes in a sultry shimmer.
Nacre is generally mixed with pigments to combine a satin, pearly finish with solid colour. Although coloured nacres will add an iridescent twist to make-up, they will never be the main ingredient in terms of colour production.
