HYALURONIC ACID
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a clear substance naturally produced by the human body to maintain moisture levels. Found mainly in skin tissue, HA is commonly known as a “molecular sponge” for its powerful water retention properties – it plumps the skin’s surface in seconds.
Today, biotechnology can be harnessed to produce different kinds of HA. Those used by YSL are safely produced from natural sources and in line with environment-friendly practices. They are also biodegradable.
As we age, our bodies produce less HA, and in fact become more effective in breaking it down. YSL Beauty uses three types of HA to counter this process:
The first one is high-molecular sodium hyaluronate, which acts as a water reservoir – it can retain up to 1,000 times its weight in water molecules within the skin layers, providing plumpness and elasticity. Its film-forming properties also help prevent water loss and strengthen the skin’s natural barrier. The skin is more comfortable, smoother and softer.
The second one is an encapsulated form of hyaluronic acid: the HA is surrounded by a special delivery agent to distribute the HA throughout all layers of the skin. The synergy of these two components provides long-lasting hydration for suppler, smoother skin.
The third one is a fragmented form of HA: the lower molecular weight allows for deeper skin penetration. Cellular studies have shown that this type of HA stimulates specific skin cells, the fibroblasts, that produce essential dermal components like collagen. By increasing pro-collagen synthesis, the skin is denser and wrinkles are smoothed.
